Where there’s no light (truth), there’s darkness (death).
‘But each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death‘.
This evil desire is anything outside the will of God. The ones that cause us to suppress the still small voice. The ones we respond to “it’s not hurting anyone”. Truth is it does, & the first person its hurting is you.
Sin is a fruit first planted as a seed. After days/months/years of growing we see the shoots, branches, leaves, flowers, fruits. We start the process of cutting down but usually the damage is already done and the restoration process is long and painful.
I can bet a huge percentage of murderers are shocked by how far they got to taking the life of another human being. They did not see it coming. (Remember hatred is murder in Gods eyes; yes, His standards are pretty high). 1 John 3:15. When you lie without thinking and then have unimaginable slips of the tongue, there’s usually more than meets the eye. When you wake up one morning in brokenness, that journey started much earlier than you are aware of.
Where it all begins.
If there’s anything hidden in your life that you don’t want the world/spouse/aggrieved party to know, could be in your phone/ laptop/past/heart & mind…this is a breeding ground for disaster, ultimately ‘death’ James 1:14-15. Physical, emotional, spiritual and eternal death.
When I was young I was terrified of this verse in the bible.. Ecclesiastes 12:14 ‘For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing whether it is good or evil’.
I couldn’t stand people knowing I stole things. I don’t know why I did that (perhaps to seek attention/act out) but I was pretty good at it; candy, money, snacks etc. The first time my sister told on me my mum denied it. A positive reinforcement right there. I pursued this all the way to primary boarding school where a few people became aware of my little secret and that’s the last I ever stole.
We hide things out of guilt and shame and that’s exactly where the devil wants us. The bible says in James 5:16 confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. Sharing brings healing and restoration because our darkness is driven away by light.
A few tips on sharing with:
Be careful though, if this is not a solid Christian group judgement draws in and the issue is doubled instead of halved.
In prayer, God will lead you to someone to talk to.
-For a couple
A solid marriage thrives on lack of boundaries in truth related to the past and present. If you have strayed in a relationship irrespective of the circumstances, your partner should know. Contrary to breaking it, this (with prayer and repentance) is the sure way of saving it in the long run. If it’s beyond the 2 parties to handle seek a couple that is mature, Godly and open for guidance. A relationship that lasts has Christ as its foundation; it’s built on prayer, bible standards (another blog post) and total dependence on God.
‘Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible for it is light that makes everything visible Ephesians 5:11-13′.
Through a pastor/leader/member. I did this once and it brought me healing. We need assurance that God loves us unconditionally despite our struggles and that He wants freedom for us (He freely gives) just as much as we do.
Shading light into our ‘darkness’ begins the journey of not only healing but helping others in the process. It takes us through trusting and depending on God to give us victory and strength to get past the struggle of regression.
We remove our identity in people and rest it in Christ because we get over the fear of “what will people say”.
